Sarah Gillespie is a stunning singer/songwriter who has, over the last few years, crossed over to the Jazz scene. Her songs and commanding poetic lyrics work so well with her four piece band. Here are a couple of my favourite shots from our portrait session.

The Rehearsal Room

Having had a past life as a stage manager I now relish being able to go back into the rehearsal room as a stills photographer. Seeing a play develop from page to stage is a fascinating experience.

I proudly do quite alot of work with The Terrence Higgins Trust. As World AIDS Day approached this year they contacted me and asked if I wouldn't mind photographing some Rugby players in red pants to raise awareness of the day. I bravely stepped up to the challenge.

Guardian/Media Trust

Last year I volunteered for The Media Trust who were doing a project with the Guardian on Unemployment. I was teamed up with a young unemployed person who was struggling to get work.
Our task was to produce an image about unemployment in one day.
The young person I worked with had never picked up an slr camera before, but within no time we were teaming with ideas for shots about how she felt to be unemployed.

We ended up with this shot which was taken in a disused swimming pool near her home. It shows how she feels waking up in the morning with no focus.

It has been published in a book by The Media Trust and recently in The Guardian on an article about unemployment. The young person was so inspiring and great to work with. A great experience.

The Pitchfork Disney

The Pitchfork Disney is a play by cult writer Philip Ridley. I was lucky enough to work with him to create this image for the poster. The play will be running at The Arcola Theatre in January 2012.

London Love

Londoners had a surprise sunny interlude from the long winter yesterday. Hope filled the air and the parks came alive again with Police horses munching grass, joggers, artists and walkers enjoying the light. I decided to be a tourist in my own city for the day and felt the London love. Here's my Big Ben Portrait, he is having a little lunchtime relax in the sun.

I photographed an Event last week at the National Theatre. It was an award ceremony for Shape Arts who are an incredible charity who pair volunteers with disabled people so they are able to get out and about to see theatre shows. They also run excellent workshops for disabled people who work in the Arts. This photo is of Victoria Oruwari who sang to celebrate Shape receiving the Queen's award for Volunteering.

Terrence Higgins Trust

I have worked with the Terrence Higgins Trust for over two years now as a freelance photographer, starting out as a volunteer and now have just completed a huge new website project for them. Check it out: http://www.myhiv.org.uk/

The shots we did were all story scenarios and were lots of fun to create a natural looking environment. Most of them were take in one room and the outdoor ones we braved the snow!

Here is one of my favourite shots which is from the exercise section, it was a huge challenge but the most satisfying job I have done to date as I know it will help people to overcome their fears when they have been diagnosed with HIV.

Santiago de Compostela

Yes, this is a place in North West Spain. Pilgrims take a really long (about 500 miles) meditational walk there from many routes. When they arrive they are greeted with a really very impressive Cathedral where the apostle St James is buried. His tomb is made of gold, its really amazing! I recommend a visit.

World Cup 2010

I got involved in a project which will be an exhibition in a lovely manor house gallery in Ealing, London. A group of 12 photographers are capturing as many different nationalities as we can supporting their country in the world cup. So far I have met Mexicans and South Koreans. It incredible that you can head into central London and within about ten minutes find any nationality in the whole world. Very special.

London Community Gospel Choir

I was lucky enough this week to be asked to photograph the London Community Gospel Choir.

These incredibly talented singers tour the country singing old classic gospel numbers and really penetrate your soul with their vocal acrobatics and powerful sound. Stirring stuff!

This desolate scene was taken in Botswana. I had been on the road, camping in the bush every night for two weeks to get here. The air was bone dry, the wind hot and every orifice was full of sand from the Kalahari desert. My skin was crumbling from the dryness and I often sat in the car clutching a frozen bottle of water to try and keep cool. I really started to understand how hard nature can be. Every plant had viscous thorns, defence mechanisms to attempt to stay alive in these harsh conditions.
